eJamming Technique

First off I want to say thanks to those responsible for this amazing software. I think it's truly revolutionary.

I've just started getting into eJamming with a drummer friend who is about 200mi away. I've been trying to figure out the best ways to use the software and compensate for the delay.

Now from what I gather from the videos posted on the site, it seems like the general idea is to monitor only your delayed signal, and learn to sync that to the other players. I don't know about other folks, but I'm finding that even with a 30ms or so delay it's really tough.

But what I have found works really well, and I'm not sure why, is to mute my delayed sound, monitor my direct sound only (via a mix control on my audio interface) and then just play along with the the other player (drums) who is delayed. The weird part about this is; it works perfectly, zero delay, when we just free form jam - But when we try to play any specific song, this sort of time warp starts happening and the tempo gets slower and slower. I think it's because in this case, the drummer is trying to adjust his tempo to my playing, where as in the first case(the jam) he is playing more to his own beat.

When we record the jam, the tracks are slightly off (from the latency delay) but if I bring the tracks into Audition and resync them, it's perfect, just like I heard it when we recorded it.

Anyone experiencing this? How do you guys deal with the delay?
