GuitarPort

Having multiple issues getting started using GuitarPort. - Frequent "runtime error" with application. - Cannot edit the preferences. On reboot and initial re-launch of application I can edit preferences but if the application crashes (which it does) the preferences do not save and I cannot edit them AT ALL after re-launching the application.

I can e-mail screen snapshots of my errors if requested.

Would love to make some progress with this. I really want this to wok and be part of it...

Looks like I've made some headway...

Downloaded and installed the ASIO4All application. I think that helped.

Made certain port forwarding worked...the portforward.com site helped...

Changed some settings and now I can hear my guitar and create a session.

The eJamming application balloons up to almost 500MB of RAM been used...is that normal?

Need to possibly adjust audio buffer settings and I need to test being in a session with another member so I can see if it works properly.

Still get a fairly frequent "runtime error"...

Overall I am encouraged by the progress!!!

Hey DanHex The reason you're having trouble with the GuitarPort is because the GuitarPort only responds to 44.1khz sample rates and eJam only runs at 48khz.

So I'm a little at a loss why you're even hearing your guitar lol. But well done. Can you be more specific as to the process you used to get audio passing?

No, the application usually uses about 100 megs or below of ram. Was the runtime error you got a C++ runtime error?

Thanks!

Hey StudioChris --

As I'm sure you know, the ASIO4All has a setting "Always Resample 44.1KHz to 48 KHz". That box was checked on my audio card setting (Yamaha AC-XG) but not on my GuitarPort. Currently, I have the resample box checked for both devices. Could this be why I am hearing my guitar?

The runtime crashes appear to be a C++ error.

Additional symptoms:

Can log in to eJam and create session. Can hear my guitar with the slight echo as described in video tutorials. After a short period, the guitar sound starts to "delay" which seems very similar to an internet bandwidth problem that one might experience when streaming audio and video. Sort of that staggered, stop-start sound.

Shortly after creating a session the software will give me a runtime error however I can usually hear my instrument even the the program is terminating. Put differently, I get an error message but I can still work in the application...2-pt message..

...So far no luck hearing myself through a mic. I should note that I am using a cheap $10 mic put into the soundcard on the back of my computer

As I noted the other day, if I Ctrl-alt-del and bring up the Processes window, I can watch the eJam application balloon up to 500MB or so.

As for how I got the audio to work --- I really didn't do much. My initial guess was that the problems were relative to the ASIO settings, which I never had experience with before. I downloaded the ASIO4All, which appears to be some sort of universal control panel for ASIO based devices.

After install, the ASIO4All recognized GuitarPort which previously had not occurred within eJam application. Upon launching eJam, I now have different choices in the Preferences for Audio Input Device. The options are ASIO4All or ASIO GuitarPort. I found this out while typing this message so I will go back and test ASIO GuitarPort which I have not done...

Hmm

The Asio Guitar port SHOULDN'T work because of the aforementioned sample rate issues, but yeah, that might be why you're hearing it, the re sample checkbox you mentioned.

You might want to google the Microsoft C++ redistribution package that sometimes helps out C++ errors. I'd paste the link but it never seems to work properly.

thanks for the info! keep it up!

Chris
