Audio, constant statics & pops

I just want to play with one person, my friend in Palo Alto.

Her: New iMac and Midiman USB audio interface. Me: PC w/ Firepod. We both can record with about 2ms latency.

We both have cable or DSL and our latency is about 56ms with about 1.7MB/s download and 355Kb/s upload (dslreports)

When I host a session, her guitar never sounds great. There are random pops and clicks. Not enough to ruin a practice session, but bad enough I would never use your recording features.

Great partnership with PortForwarding.com. What you really need next is something that helps us troubleshoot unrecordable sound quality. "Who's causing the latency? Which player's DSL/Cable connection isn't fast enough? How much of the latency is from the recording interface vs. network latency?

If you can fix the quality issues for people without FIOS or a T1 connection, great. Otherwise, help us figure out how we can get recordable quality.

Hey Bob,

Sorry to hear your having trouble, i certainly know how frustrating random errors can be.

have you tried recording anything locally and playing it back? If the recording drops out locally, then its something in the system, but if it just drops out over the internet any occasional dropouts can be cured with the Send Song feature.

i would also try to find out if there are any other people using her internet connection. That can cause very strange behavior.

What USB interface is your friend using? And how does your audio sound to her?

Thanks BobSTL, ill look forward to hearing from you.

She uses a M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB. Yes, we can both record flawlessly locally. She hears the same glitches although it a small pattern of the host having worse quality from the guest than the guest hears from the host seems to be emerging. Weird.

Simultaneous Internet Use: We only have one computer in each house so no one can be using anything at the same time. We also turn off all internet apps like messenger, etc.

We'll try the Send Song feature, but MY WISH is that we have good Live quality. Anything the application can do to help us get that would be appreciated.

FYI: I (mrbuff) was accidentally logged on my Dad's (BobStL) account for the first post. I was trying to help him troubleshoot and didn't log off. Thanks.
