Though upload speed is ok i still get latency!

Hello and congrats on a great idea! Here's the thing: Me and my pal both have 256kbitsps upload speeds and live about 250km away (much less than a 1000miles!) We still get latencies up to 57ms which makes it impossible to play with! Wouldnt it be rational to get about 30ms or less? i mean regarding the distance! Any help on improving the latency. additionally the software i use to monitor my modem shows that the upload capacity of the line is not being used to its fullest! Could it be that the lines are overloaded? Please help! Thanks again! Mike (www.myspace.com/mikemossproject)

Hey Mike

First of all, routers have alot to do with latency, also, if you're on a wireless network, expect to feel more latency.

Also, your sound card can add a significant amount of latency as well. So please check your buffer sizes. I tend to get about 30 ms of latency in town and i can get around 40 ms over about 2500 miles here in the US. so youre situation seems usual, was there anyone else using your network?
