Why is it that a musician who seems close enough geographically has a delay too difficult for me to play to?

There are several possible reasons for this: the musician who lives closer to you may have a lower upload speed than the musician who lives further away, and generally, the lower the upload speed, the higher the delay setting needs to be set; another reason is the closer musician's Internet Service Provider (ISP) may use a different set of routers to reach the Internet backbone than the one who lives further away, making for a greater delay.
