How Do I Use Overdub Mode to Run a Recording Session in Beta 11?
Answer:
Overdub mode allows you to create a song, one track at a time, with any eJammer you work with ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. All you have to do is be in an eJamming Session with them. And once you turn on Overdub mode, you’ll probably want to live on it.
The Session Leader controls Overdub mode. If you’re the Leader, you turn it on by CLICKING the “OVERDUB” button on the top right of your seat. The Overdub button will turn RED when engaged (just like the REC-enable button on each track).
When you click Overdub, all the previously record-armed tracks in your session (if any) will be disarmed, and the REC button on their tracks will turn from RED to WHITE.
Let’s say you’re in a session with Gilmour and Schroderr, and you’ve laid down some base tracks or you’ve imported a drum or rhythm track. Now, you need to record some tracks over what you’ve already got. So, you’re going to record Gilmour’s new track first. After you click the Overdub button, click the REC button next to the peak meter on the audio track Gilmour is going to record on during this pass. That REC button will turn red, and the peak meter will activate (you should see the signal jump in the peak meter).
CLICK the RECORD button on the transport and begin recording the audio or MIDI data.
Here’s the really neat thing: where before, Gilmour used to hear his instrument with the eJamming imposed Sync Delay, now he will hear his own instrument with NEAR ZERO LATENCY AND SYNCHRONIZED TO ANY PREVIOUSLY RECORDED TRACKS OR BACKING TRACKS. So now it’s really easy to record a track in eJamming AUDiiO!
And not only can you and Schroderr hear Gilmour recording in sync with the previously-recording, you can give him feedback as the recording is happening just by talking into your mic (and your feedback WON’T be recorded)!
If you want to keep the track you’ve just recorded but want to lay down an alternative version, you, as the Leader simply ADD another audio or MIDI track on Gilmour’s seat and REC-arm that track. Whatever Gilmour records on that new track he’ll hear with near-zero latency and synchronized to the previous tracks, and no matter where you are, you will hear the new track synchronized to the previous tracks in real time too.
And now when it’s time for Schroderr to lay down his track, REC-arm an audio or MIDI track on his seat and either lay down a new track or record over a previously-recorded track by CLICKING the RECORD button on the transport.
Now Schroderr will hear his own performance with near-zero latency and you’ll hear his track synchronized to the previously-recorded tracks. And if you REC-arm one of your audio tracks, you’ll be able to record with NEAR ZERO LATENCY and the others in your session will hear you synchronized when you CLICK the RECORD button on the transport.
Adding more tracks is simple. CLICK the little Menu Disclosure Arrow on the top-right of your seat (to the right of the “LEAVE” button) or on any other player’s seat, and choose “Add Track”. Then select AUDIO or MIDI from the menu and that new audio or MIDI track will be added to the Player’s seat. Note, you have a maximum of 8 audio and 16 MIDI tracks total in an eJamming AUDiiO Session at any time. So don’t go too crazy.
REMEMBER, THE OVERDUB BUTTON MUST BE CLICKED AND TURN RED FOR OVERDUB MODE TO WORK.
So now you can create masterpieces with anyone in the world, but how can you listen to your tunes in the car? With eJamming AUDiiO’s new Mixdown feature, you can. Click this link to find out how.
