Explain what OPEN and CLOSED Ports mean

Answer:

The OPEN or CLOSED Port information is there to tell you whether you can connect to a session or whether other musicians will be able to connect to you if you are a Session Leader.

If your Port 26900 is OPEN, you can LEAD a session and everyone will be able to connect to you. 

If the Leader’s Port is OPEN and your Port is CLOSED, you can still join the Leader’s Session in a two-person jam. 

If the Leader’s Port is OPEN and your Port is CLOSED and another musician wants to join, you may be blocking that third or fourth musician from joining the session.

BUT… even if Port 26900 is “Closed”, you can still connect to another musician over eJamming if your modem or router supports Network Address Translation (known as NAT).  eJamming will attempt a NAT negotiation with the other musicians connecting to a session.  If NAT negotiation succeeds, you will be able to join a session, or players will be able to join your session, even if you’ve failed the Port Test.

In case NAT negotiation fails to connect you to other musicians in a session, you can always manually forward port 26900 to your computer.  We have worked with the website www.portforward.com to set up specific instructions to port forward port 26900 for eJamming on almost every model of router out there.
