What's NEW in BETA 13?
Answer:
First thing’s first, eJamming AUDiiO Beta 13 is ONLY compatible with other copies of Beta 13, if you still have Beta 12, you will not be able to connect in a session with someone using Beta 13, so go ahead and download Beta 13 already.
The new eJamming AUDiiO Beta 13 is all about RECORDING. Making it easier, more powerful and just plain better. Beta 13’s changes are:
- SEND SONG now allows THREE DIFFERENT SPEEDS to allow for quick file transfers when audio quality is not a major concern.
- You can now have up to 16 AUDIO TRACKS in an eJamming Session.
- You can now RECORD FROM ANY POINT IN THE TIMELINE to any other point in the timeline, allowing you to fix up one or several sections of a track if necessary, or allowing you to start recording just before the instrument comes in instead of waiting from the beginning of the track to record a part at bar 200. Every piece of audio eJamming records is called a “Take”. This will be important later because it means that eJamming AUDiiO now has totally non-destructive recording.
- We also added in-depth TAKE MANAGEMENT in eJamming AUDiiO, allowing you to delete any takes you have already recorded, choose to play any of the takes on a track, or choose to play none of them. This allows you to record several takes of one section, and then later choose the one to keep.
- We added a way to select ANY available audio output to accommodate people with multi-output sound cards, like me.
- When a player leaves a session, the tracks belonging to that player are RE-ASSIGNED to the session leader.
· Send Song Improvement Details
The SEND SONG feature in eJamming has been a very powerful but rather slow feature. For those of you who haven’t used it yet, the Send Song button (up at the top right of the session), will transfer full quality audio files among all the players in a session. For instance, if you recorded a guitar track and something on the internet caused the other players in your session to hear drop outs on their end, the Send Song button will transfer the files that were recorded locally on YOUR computer to the other players, and once the other players in the session receive those files, the dropouts will be gone.
Another use for Send Song is loading a file into a session using the “Load Track Audio” function, which is accessed from the disclosure arrow to the right of the audio waveform view. Once you load the audio file, the other player(s) in the session will not hear the audio that you just loaded. Why? Because it was loaded onto YOUR computer not theirs. So, in order to “give” the track to them, you will need to hit the Send Song button, and transfer the file or files across the internet.
You should also Send Song when you have tracks recorded, and someone new joins the session. You will need to Send Song at this point in order for them to hear the tracks you’ve recorded, for the same reason as above.
In the past, hitting the Send Song button would present you with a dialog, and hitting OK on that dialog would start the transfer, but NOW (drumroll….)
Now, hitting the SEND SONG button presents the leader of the session with three options:
- Draft Quality - This setting is for developing ideas and transferring files as quickly as possible. The audio quality is not awesome, but the transfers are fast.
- Good Quality – This setting is halfway between Draft Quality and Full Quality in terms of both speed and quality. It is faster than Full Quality but sounds better than Draft Quality.
- Full Quality – This setting transfers the full quality 48k 16bit audio files among all the players in the session. This takes a while, so go make a sandwich or refill your coffee cup.
And hitting OK starts the transfer. The progress indicator will show how much time is left, so the guesswork is gone. You asked, we responded.
Just what it says, 16 audio tracks in an eJamming session -- twice what we had in Beta 12. Enjoy!
· Recording from any point in the Timeline
Remember the days of waiting until bar 70 to start your solo? When you had to start recording from bar one and just wait to come in? Those days are over. eJamming AUDiiO now allows recording from any point in the timeline and also allows you to stop at any point in the timeline so you can record over any part of your song
As a part of this feature, eJamming also now gives the leader of the session the ability to delete takes, and only playback specific takes. The drop down menu that gives these options is located on the far right of the waveform view.
This small disclosure arrow opens up the options for whatever track(s) you choose. Playback ALL Takes will play back everything on the track, and selecting any specific takes or set of specific takes will only play back those takes. If you are SURE you don’t want a take, delete it, because when you Send Song, ALL the takes on the tracks are sent, not just the ones you hear.
From this menu the options for playback of specific takes or deleting the last take can be accessed. This is a very powerful menu for recording and perfecting quality tracks, so please investigate it further.
· Selecting any available audio output
For those of you with multiple output sound cards, you can now select any audio output pair from the Preferences Menu. The Preferences Menu is the same place where you select the INPUT and Audio Devices for eJamming to use.
· Track Reassignment when someone leaves the session
Upon a user leaving the session, but not the session leader, all the recorded tracks of that player are transferred to the leader of the session. This means that someone’s tracks don’t leave with them. But don’t worry, if you want you can always delete them later.
When recording, we recommend that you record all your tracks either IN Overdub Mode or NOT in Overdub Mode. Recording some tracks first with Overdub Mode off, and then other tracks with it on can cause all kinds of strange timings because of how the sync delay works. So please be careful.
As always any bugs you find should be reported ASAP. Just send an email to techsupport@ejamming.com with the phrase “Bug Report” in the Subject line.
· As much information as possible on how to reproduce the bug.
· The kind of computers and operating systems that were involved. i.e Mac, PC OSX or Windows XP
· The sound card you were using, and if you were using ASIO4ALL.
· Any other info about the bug you think we should know.
Thanks everybody and enjoy eJamming AUDiiO Beta 13!
